It's deserted diners like these, even if they are in West Hollywood on the Strip, that makes one question their mere existence when cleanliness and some type of order is all one can possess in a seemingly meaningless world. Gee, this sounds like a short story I read once.

A few years back, after we left our Wilshire Boulevard location, we were in the Union Bank building. The Union Bank building was the first sky scrapper in post-Bunker Hill downtown Los Angeles. Now our DTLA office is in a 1989 special on 7th Street with spectacular views from the 32nd Floor penthouse.

Summer Olympics, 2028 here - in Los Angeles! Our world class city! Maybe stay at a hotel and see this view. I am gonna try to get a ticket to at least one event!

Echo Park looking out towards downtown Los Angeles. A wise use of civic funds went into restoring the boathouse in 2012. Other than the bathroom area the peddle boats, water, and park are clean, lively, and multi-ethnic. All of the above makes this a jewel of the city. This is what LA is about!
A few years ago I wrote an article about Echo Park and posted the below which shows the same place in the 1950s:

Being a real labor lawyer, and a law firm owner, means I have to do what is needed to get the job done. Yesterday morning I picked up a door from a downtown Los Angeles loading dock. Late in the business day I brought it to our finished Oxnard office sans a closet door underneath the staircase. I then proceeded to clean the entire building in anticipation for our carpet installation tomorrow. The janitor flaked and all I could procure was a woman who vacuumed what I'd already cleaned, for two and a half hours.
From 5:00-5:30 PM I was interrupted by a serious conference call with an arbitrator in which all of the details were set for a June sexual harassment arbitration likely to be in Bakersfield and downtown Los Angeles.
At midnight I arrived at the Sherman Oaks office, ready to dump trash from the cleanup. One of our people was still at the office at midnight! He didn't even know I would be making a surprise visit.
I was a little late to work today, but I got there by 9:30 and am still toiling away here at 10:15 PM. Responsibilities...

View of County water usage between the Los Angeles County Superior Court, Central and several county administrative buildings. Presumably these fountains use recycled water.

As of late I have noticed an influx of new client calls where the callers have not been terminated from their jobs. The issues center around conflicts with other workers, or perceptions of mistreatment the callers do not have legal rights to sue for. This sudden uptick is unusual. It seems employees are seeking out a lawyer for human resource issues they should communicate to human resources, but maybe they are afraid to do so.

This is the lobby of my building at 1055 7th in Los Angeles where I am a tenant. Nice touch with presents under the tree, but still no Chanukah or Kwanzaa decorations. The snowman gives it a a cheery touch, and the flag makes it look patriotic.

Around this time at night I signed my name on this Substitution of Attorney Form substituting myself in as the Attorney of Record for my first client, ever. This was after dinner on November 23, 1993. Earlier in the day I went down to the Van Nuys courthouse to get sworn in as a California attorney!

It's back to school for many students.
California Labor Code gives parents certain rights in their employment. For example, parents cannot be fired or discriminated against for participating in up to 40 hours a year of events at the school provided reasonable notice is given and the employer has 25 or more employees. Nor is it permissible, regardless of the number of employees, to discharge or discriminate against a parent who is required to attend the child's school because the student has done bad things under California Education Code Section 48900.1.

From the 20th Floor of a building on Wilshire Boulevard looking west. Today, private alternative dispute resolution at Judicate West. Tuesday a judge trial in Van Nuys. Tomorrow court in Bakersfield for who knows how long. So much for taking it easy during the holidays. Actually, I love it. I'd rather be out fighting and hopefully winning these cases than sitting around in the office pondering what might happen in the real world!
